The Therapy Place is committed to providing exceptional mental health
and holistic services.  This includes community outreach through
monthly events.  This center has been a vision many years in the
making.  The founder, Gretchen Laporta LCSW, CMH has over 19
years of experience in the area of mental health.  It has long been her
goal to open a private practice in the community that breaks the
stereotypes of therapy, and makes positive living a standard for
everyone.

She received her Bachelors of Science degrees at Towson University
in Psychology and Sociology and her Masters Degree in Social Work
at West Virginia University.  After completing post-graduate training,
she received her clinical license from the state of North Carolina.  She
is a member in good standing of the National Association of Social
Workers and the National Guild of Hypnotists. Her experience includes
employee assistance, individual, group, and couples counseling.  She
has worked in in-patient psychiatric facilities, an emergency room,
community based services, an adolescent group home, and private
practice.

While in private practice over the last 11 years she has become a
Master Hypnotist through the National Guild of Hypnotists and
completed a certification in regression hypnosis and the two part  
training to administer Eye Movement Desensitization and
Reprocessing (EMDR) by the EMDR Institute.  She has also become
certified as a Reiki level II.  Gretchen is now a Happiness Coach
trained by the author and developer of the Happiness Project in the UK,
Dr. Robert Holden.  


Lee Hasty, MSW, LCSW
 After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
Lee obtained his Master of Social Work degree from St. Louis
University in 1979. He has over 30 years of clinical experience that
includes a rich and varied background of positions at St. Louis
Children's Hospital in neurology, school social work, brain injury
rehabilitation, nine years with the Carolina Permanente Medical Group
in Charlotte , and over fifteen years in private practice. Lee does
individual, family, and couples' therapy with clients of all ages. With
children his approach is to combine individual and family therapy with
emphasis on behavior management, healthy family boundaries, and
healthy parent-child communication.  Lee is trained in hypnosis, and he’
s certified in two levels of Eye Movement Desensitization and
Reprocessing (EMDR), a therapy that has a high rate of success in
helping individuals to resolve painful or traumatic memories. He’s
highly skilled in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. His areas of expertise
include but are not limited to:

 Since 2005 he has served as a clinical preceptor for the family
medicine residency program at Carolinas Medical Center - Union, he
facilitates a support group for the family medicine residents at CMC-
Union, and he serves as a consulting facilitator in conflict management
for family medicine residents at CMC-Union and CMC- Charlotte.
